Matt Kitson

Matt studied Medicine at the University of Queensland, graduating with Honours in 2001. After initially training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane he moved to London, working at the Royal Free and Royal London Hospitals, and then returned to Australia to complete Gastroenterology training at the Alfred and St Vincent’s Hospitals, obtaining his FRACP in 2011.

He was awarded a PhD by Monash University in 2015; his thesis evaluated vitamin D status in liver disease.

He is married with two children. In time away from work he enjoys bike-riding and skiing.

Matt is dedicated to patient-centred care and enjoys managing all aspects of Gastroenterology & Hepatology including liver disease, bowel cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disorders. He performs gastroscopy, colonoscopy and Pillcams.

His outpatient practice in Melbourne is based at Glen Iris Private and Cabrini Malvern.

He serves Gippsland as a visiting Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist to both Bairnsdale and Wonthaggi Hospitals for consultations and endoscopic procedures, and provides telehealth services to regional Victoria.

Matt is a member of the Alfred Hospital Gastroenterology Department senior medical staff and a Senior Lecturer at Monash University.

Whilst up to date clinical practice is what Matt finds the most rewarding aspect of his work, he has over 40 publications and conference presentations in peer-reviewed international journals, and at both national and international conferences.
